The county provides a pension plan through the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). All eligible employees will be required to pay 50% of the required WRS pension payment as established for general employees.
Employees may participate in deferred compensation plans to enhance their retirement income. Contributions to the plan are deducted directly from payroll, either on a pre- or post-tax basis dependent upon plan selection.
The county offers a high-deductible health plan through UMR/GHT. The county pays a portion of the health insurance premium and contributes to a health savings account on behalf of the employee.
Eligible employees receive life insurance equivalent to one year’s estimated earnings. Additional coverage is available for purchase by the employee. A spouse and dependent life insurance policy is also available.
The county offers dental insurance and provides contributions to the monthly premiums.
The county offers a comprehensive voluntary vision insurance for employees and dependents.
The county contributes funds to employees' PEHP account each paycheck after an initial waiting period. The tax-free PEHP account allow money to be set aside to pay for future medical expenses and insurance premiums after an employee retires or separates employment from the county.
Disability insurance is available for income replacement in the event you become unable to work due to a non-work related injury or illness. Short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
The county provides paid leave benefits. Paid Time Off (PTO) is earned each pay period and provides a flexible means of taking time off work for eligible employees. Other positions have offerings including vacation or personal time, sick time and bereavement. Holiday pay is also provided to eligible employees.
Alternative work schedules and remote work may be available dependent upon the employee's position with the county.
Calumet County's Tuition Assistance Program is designed to provide financial assistance to regular full-time and part-time employees voluntarily attending job-related, educational courses that are of direct benefit to the county as an employer, and courses within relevant technical college, undergraduate, or graduate-level programs.
Calumet County has an onsite fitness center for our employees and their spouses and dependents over the age of 15, to use free of charge. Our fitness center is located in the basement of the Courthouse and is available for 24/7 use. Sheriff's Office staff are able to use their fitness facility in the Sheriff's Office and Correctional Facility building.

There are two wellness rooms in the courthouse available to employees. Wellness rooms are designated spaces to support employees’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being during the workday. A few use examples include virtual care visits, on-site Nice visits, lactation, personal medication administration, mindfulness, meditation, and more.
